Best Water Sprinkler for Grass: 10 Oscillating, Impact and Spike Sprinklers Compared

Lawns come in rectangles and circles, and sprinklers do too. An oscillating sprinkler sweeps a rectangle, a spike impact head throws a circle or an arc, and mixing them up leaves dry corners or wet pavement.

So the first choice is shape. The Melnor XT Oscillating Sprinkler 4500 sq ft and Melnor Metal Oscillating Sprinkler 4500 sq ft cover up to 4,500 sq ft in a rectangle. The Orbit Brass Impact Sprinkler 56946 and Orbit Zinc Impact Sprinkler 2-Pack are impact heads that throw a circle up to 6,360 sq ft. The Melnor MiniMax Spike Sprinkler 4000 sq ft is a compact spike oscillating sprinkler. The Orbit H2O-Six Gear-Drive Sprinkler is a gear-drive with six patterns.

Match the Sprinkler to the Lawn Shape

Oscillating sprinklers like the Eden Weighted Essential Oscillating Sprinkler 3,600 sq ft suit rectangles.
